BioGuard Back Up is the preferred algae preventative for the BioGuard Care System. Weekly use of this product prevents algae before it starts. Back Up is formulated to complement most swimming pool sanitizers. It is a highly effective algae killer and algae preventative. The wetting agent in this product allows it to penetrate small crevices where algae are likely to form. This product is effective and non-staining when used as directed. This product kills and prevents all types of algae; black algae, green algae and mustard algae.
Back Up will not evaporate, and its algae fighting abilities increase as pool water temperature increases. It provides a residual effectiveness that protects your pool against algae formation while keeping the water sparkling clear.

Just used this in my in ground pool after shocking. Algae is gone and water sparkles. I suggest using this in combination with Algatec (64oz.) for best long term results. Use both sparingly. They will last a long time and save money.
Might not be the cheapest product out there, but I use the bioguard three step process (smart silk sticks, burnout shock, and back up algecide) and pool maintenance has been much easier. My water always looks great and people frequently ask me what I use. It works great for me.
